Ninoy Aquino Day is a Non-Working Holiday



Ninoy Aquino Day is being celebrated today, August 21, in commemoration of the 28th death anniversary of former Senator Benigno �Ninoy� Aquino, Jr. who get assassinated in 1983 at the Manila International Airport Tarmac.



As part of the celebration, Malaca�an declared August 21 as �non-working holiday� as stated in Republic Act 9256, signed into law by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on February 25, 2004, 21 years after Ninoy's death and 18 years after the first EDSA People Power Revolution and as sponsored by Senate President Franklin Drilon and House Speaker Jose de Venecia.



President Noynoy Aquino, Ninoy's son and the current President of the Republic of the Philippines through Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said: �May the Filipino people never forget him and the many others who fought for the restoration of our democracy, and may future generations continue to hold dear the example Ninoy Aquino set for us through his life, his struggles, and his sacrifice.
