We didnt particularly like the "gimmick" at the press conference of GMA Films new movie "ITALY" last Tuesday night.
Some may deny it was so but to us observers that night, the live simultaneous kissing scene (and it wasnt just a smack!) between Dennis Trillo and Italian actress Andrea de Lugo and her lady friend with Mark Herras, was nothing but a cheap trick to keep the press "interested."
After a sing and dance portion with Andrea and Barbara, before the press conference proper even began, the host of the night interviewed the two and before we knew it, he calls in the movies leading men Dennis and Mark to join them and front. The next we saw was live torrid kissing! And for what, it simply escapes us.
Anyway, the reason we suspected it was a trumped up gimmick was that, we met the main stars Jolina Magdangal and Rufa Mae Quinto on our way out and we asked them why they were late, they chorused, "Kanina pa kami sa ibaba pero ayaw kami paakyatin muna."
We dont know why a film would choose to resort to such contrived tricks just to catch the publics attention. Could it be that the drumbeaters of the movie are kind of wanting for more interest because they are not confident of their product?
If so, how can they now be confident of it when GMA has evidently given its full weight behind the project supporting its expensive production aboard a luxury cruise ship journeying through Europe.
We will find out, anyway, when the movie opens on Sept. 17.
