Sarah Geronimo Covers Preview Magazine October 2008 Issue

Philippines pop princess Sarah Geronimo graces the cover of Preview Magazines' October 2008 issue - her first-ever cover for any major glossy.

Dramatic eye makeup and stunning coats from Burberry London's Autumn-Winter collection—flown in especially for this shoot—transform Sarah into a stunning sophisticate with a Goth chic edge.

It may be a departure from the Sarah everyone is used to, but there are many subtle changes happening in her career. For one, Sarah is slowly blossoming into the 20-year-old that she is. Her new album Just Me... Sarah offers a different sound.

Her hard work has obviously paid off: her most recent movie A Very Special Love is a certified box-office hit. Success in both singing and acting is a rare feat for any artist Sarah's age, and there isn't anyone quite like her in the industry today.

Read more about Sarah Geronimo in the October 2008 issue of Preview Magazine, now available in newsstands, bookstores, and supermarkets nationwide at P125 per copy.

Bb. Pilipinas World Janina San Miguel Backs-Out From Ms. World 2008 Pageant

This year's Bb. Pilipinas-World Janina San Miguel has decided to quit from Ms. World 2008 beauty pageant because of the sudden death of her grandfather. She was supposed to be the Philippine representative to the upcoming Miss World Beauty Pageant to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa on December 14.

Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. (BPCI) issued an official statement Monday night as follows:

The untimely demise of her grandfather, among other personal reasons, has caused her undue stress, thus hindering her from fulfilling her duties for the said title… BPCI wishes to express its gratitude to Ms. San Miguel for this act of graciousness and concern for the country. They also wish her well in her future endeavors.

This year’s first runner-up and a crowd favorite Danielle Castano will take over Janina’s duties as Bb. Pilipinas-World. Pageant enthusiasts were disappointed earlier this year when Danielle was not crowned as one of the three winners. But since she placed first runner-up, she will replace Janina as our representative in the upcoming Miss World pageant.

It’s interesting to note that 9 years ago, a similar thing happened. Miriam Quiambao was only first runner-up at that time and became a replacement for the reigning Bb. Pilipinas Universe. From being first runner-up in Bb. Pilipinas, she ended up winning first runner-up in Miss Universe 1999. Will the same thing happen to Danielle? Or even win the very first Miss World crown for the country?

Piolo Pascual Reacts About "Manila" Controversy

Although screenwriters Ricky Lee and Pete Lacaba air their disappointment about the independent film "Manila" and its directors Adolf Alix Jr. and Raya Martin, Piolo Pascual is still thrilled about his first-produced film despite controversy.

Piolo has been very open in saying that Manila is "inspired" by Ishmael Bernal's 1980 movie Manila By Night and Lino Brocka's 1979 masterpiece Jaguar (slang for guwardiya or security guard).

Manila By Night was written and directed by the late Ishmael Bernal, with input from Ricky Lee and other screenwriters. Jaguar, on the other hand, is credited to both Ricky Lee and Pete Lacaba.

Piolo is still positive that the issue about his indie movie would be settled soon. "Tapos na kameng mag-shoot and nasa post-production na, I'm gonna see the rough cut tonight. I hope they'll be able to iron things out with Mr. Ricky Lee and Mr. Pete Lacaba."

When asked for his comment about it, Piolo was honest enough to say, "I'd rather not comment about it because I only found out about it yesterday. So, I haven't really discussed it with my director. I'm meeting up with him tonight, si Direk Adolf Alix Jr. But I'm praying na maayos naman."

In the end, he is still positive about Manila. "I'm also excited about the project, it's the first time I produce. I hope it turns out well."

Piolo will be portraying two roles in the movie: William, a drug addict who is trying to restore his self-worth by reestablishing his relationship with the people around him; and Philip, a bodyguard employed to look over a mayor's son, only to be disillusioned in the end after a series of unfortunate events lead him to discover the underworld.

Sam Milby Nervous About His Rockoustic Heartthrob Concert

Barely a month before his first major solo concert, Sam Milby admits that he is excited and nervous at the same time.

The 24-year-old singer-actor blamed his fear of performing solo in front of the public for feeling "extremely nervous" about his The Rockoustic Heartthrob concert on October 25 at the Aliw Theater in Pasay City.

"Kasi ako 'yong type na may stage fright," Sam told the press in an interview during the launching og Star Magic's 2009 Catalogue yesterday, September 28, at the lobby of EDSA Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong City.

Sam added that he's not used to having a performing solo on stage. In fact, his past major concerts were with fellow "heartthrob" Piolo Pascual.

"Nasanay na ako, mas kumportable ako kung may kasama ako sa stage. Pero ano, siyempre ito 'yong first major solo concert ko so... Malaki 'yong venue, maraming tao, 'tapos ako lang 'yong sa stage at ang daming mga kanta."

Despite this, Sam still tries not to feel uneasy by thinking about the songs that he will be performing during the concert.

"Excited naman ako kasi maganda 'yong line-up ng songs, so nag-aaral ako. May mga rock songs, mga songs na galing childhood ko, parang ganyan. May mga acoustic, may mga rock."

So, has Sam started rehearsing for the big concert?

"Wala pa!" exclaimed Sam. "Wala pa nga, e, kasi wala pa akong time kasi 'yong Dyosa, at saka tinapos ko na 'yong indie film ko na Cul de Sac. Sobrang busy ako sa indie film at saka Dyosa at saka may iba-ibang raket din."

Sam knows the he only has less than three weeks to prepare for his first solo concert. This may be the reason he blurted out during the interview, "Sana mag-start na 'yong rehearsals kasi kailangan ko ng maraming-maraming rehearsal."

Sam also admitted that he never imagined himself performing in such concert event when he was still starting out in show business.

"Feeling ko hindi ko kaya. Feeling ko, hindi pa ako handa," said Sam. "Pero ngayon, I need to get used to it kasi stage fright talaga ako. So, kailangan kong masanay na nasa harap ako ng tao."

Star Magic Launches 2009 Catalogue with an All-white Affair

It was an all-white affair for the launch of Star Magic Catalogue 2009.

Ang next 22 main stars ayon sa pagkakasunod ay sina Bea Alonzo ("Stunning Swan"), John Lloyd Cruz ("The Actor's Actor"), Kristine Hermosa ("The Reluctant Star"), Diether Ocampo ("The Activist"), Rica Peralejo ("Educating Rica"), Sam Milby ("Certified A-Lister"), Kim Chiu ("Everybody's Princess"), Gerald Anderson ("Boy Wonder"), Roxanne Guinoo ("Child Woman"), Jake Cuenca ("The Good Bad Boy"), Angelica Panganiban ("The Real Deal"), Zanjoe Marudo ("Man of the Moment"), Shaina Magdayao ("The Sweetheart"), Jon Avila ("Heroic Hunk"), Rafael Rosell ("Independent Spirit"), Maja Salvador ("Rising Thespian"), Jay-R Siaboc ("Wild Card"), Yeng Constantino ("Music Heartthrob"), Erich Gonzales ("The Good Girl"), Nikki Gil ("The Natural"), Pokwang ("Funny Lady"), at Vina Morales ("The Dynamo").

Kris Aquino Reveals How She Consumed Her Endorsement Fees

If you happen to read my previous article or probably bought a copy of Yes! Magazine October issue, you for sure are aware by now that Kris Aquino topped their list of Top 20 Celebrity Endorsers for 2008. And maybe, like me, is curious how she spent some, if not all, of her talent fees from her endorsements?

Kris, on her text messages to Jo-Ann Maglipon, Yes! Editor-in-Chief, mentioned where the big portion of her talent fees from her endorsements actually go.

"The bulk of my advertising this year went to Baby James's educational fund (pre-paid lump sum from Grade 1 to 4th year college), his wealth-managed trust fund which we'll receive after college graduation and Josh's wealth-managed fund as well," said Kris.

"Josh will always need special care," Kris continued, "so I promised my mom [former President Corazon Aquino] to make sure that he'll always be ok financially. He is always her top worry."

The former Philippine president was diagnosed with colon cancer earlier this year and Kris told Ms. Maglipon that she also helps in the medical expenses.

"I take care of some of my mom's medical expenses because it makes me feel good but she's forever wanting to pay me back," she said.

Although Kris did not mention exactly where the money came from, she said that, "James has fulfilled his promise to his family to build a bigger home in their province.

"Thank you for this recognition," she told Ms. Maglipon.

Kris emerged on top of the YES! list because she is "without a doubt the queen of product endorsements, with 21 products to her name."

According to YES!, Kris is a favorite of advertisers because "she is very easy to work with, and is very professional, arriving for a shoot prepared, with her lines memorized."

But Kris's best asset is that "she connects well with consumers, whatever bracket of society they belong to."

Womanizer - Britney Spears

Superstar
Where you from, how's it going?
I know you
Gotta clue, what you’re doing?
You can play brand new to all the other chicks out here
But I know what you are, what you are, baby

Look at you
Gettin' more than just re-up
Baby, you
Got all the puppets with their strings up
Fakin' like a good one, but I call 'em like I see 'em
I know what you are, what you are, baby

Womanizer

Boy, don't try to front
I know just what you are

Womanizer

Daddy-O
You got the swagger of champions
Too bad for you
Just can't find the right companion
I guess when you have one too many, makes it hard
It could be easy, but that's who you are, baby

Lollipop
Must mistake me as a sucker
To think that I
Would be a victim not another
Say it, play it how you wanna
But no way I'm ever gonna fall for you, never you, baby

Maybe if we both lived in a different world
It would be all good, and maybe I could be ya girl
But I can't 'cause we don't

I can’t imagine the Philippine Music industry without Gary Valenciano. He’s really the only one that does best with what he does. That’s why when you say Mr. Pure Energy, that really means so much more that what it initially seems to mean. Gary is an institution at such a young age. He’s a huge, huge superstar and has brought our country many honors,” exclaims Sharon.

Survivor Philippines Update: Castaways Voted Out Emerson Dino

It was an emotional Tribal Council for the Naak tribe as they faced host Paolo Bediones in the second elimination of Survivor Philippines. In the end, they decided to vote out sewing machine technician Emerson Dino.

Emerson became the target of his tribemates after his behavior during the first immunity challenge and his conflict with farmer's daughter Vevherly Gador. But it was not easy for the rest of the Naak tribe to send him packing.

Basketball player JC Tiuseco cried upon realizing that Survivor Philippines is more than just a game and it became so hard to eat one of their own. Although they've been together in the island for only six days, they already managed to develop close ties with each other.

In the end, they had no choice but to say goodbye to one of them. Emerson became the second castaway to be voted out after receiving five of the eight votes.

In his exit interview, Emerson defended his actions. He said that the people should not judge him on what he did during his short stint in Survivor Philippines because it's different when you're actually playing the game.

Next week, the remaining 16 castaways will engage in another set of challenges to determine who will be voted off next.

FUTURE PROJECTS:

Year 2009 promises to be a bigger year for the Kapuso network because of the gigantic projects lined up in the first quarter alone.

First, Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera will still be paired together in their next primetime series. Ms. Lilybeth Rasonable revealed that Dingdong and Marian will star in the TV adaptation of the 1980 drama movie Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang, which starred Vivian Velez and the late Eddie Rodriguez.

The lady executives of GMA-7 also confirmed the reports that Richard Gutierrez will don the mask of Zorro as his next project after Codename: Asero.

Another exciting project of the Kapuso network next year is the TV adaptation of Totoy Bato, which starred the King of Philippine Movies Fernando Poe, Jr. In the new version, the title role will be portrayed by action superstar Robin Padilla with possibly boxing champ Manny Pacquiao in the cast. But what's so surprising about Totoy Bato is Robin's leading lady—Regine Velasquez. This will be the follow-up project of the Asia's Songbird after the highly-successful Ako Si Kim Samsoon.

Another Koreanovela will be adapted for Philippine TV next year—the hit drama All About Eve. A story of two rival journalists, All About Eve will star Sunshine Dizon and Iza Calzado, who have worked together before in Impostora.

Aside from All About Eve, GMA-7 has also bought the rights of two other Koreanovelas: the romantic comedies Full House and Coffee Prince.

Ms. Wilma Galvante revealed that Full House is really intended for Richard Gutierrez and Marian Rivera, but the casting might change depending on the availability of the two major Kapuso stars. As for Coffee Prince, GMA-7 has yet to decide who will play the lead roles.

As for the highly-anticipated Captain Barbell Meets Darna, Ms. Galvante assured that it will finally push through next year; although she did not disclose whether Richard will reprise his role as Captain Barbell or who will play Darna.
